Article in a Nutshell:
In both the UK and Germany, the largest group of TikTok Shop buyers is 30 to 39 years old and earns a middle income.
German buyers skew older: 46% are 40 or older, compared to 35% in the UK.
Germany has more buyers at both ends of the income range, with 28% in the low-income group and 16% in the high-income group.
Middle-income buyers make up 62% in the UK and 56% in Germany.
TikTok Shop launched in Germany in March 2025, four years after the UK, and leaned heavily on discounted products at launch.
Who buys on TikTok Shop? In the UK and Germany, the answer starts out the same. The largest group of buyers is 30 to 39 years old and earns a middle income.
Beyond that shared core, the two markets differ in important ways. Germany's TikTok Shop audience is older, and its income profile is more spread out.
In Germany, 46% of TikTok Shop buyers are 40 or older. In the UK, that share is 35%. But the most prevalent age group in both markets is between 30 and 39 years old. More represented in the UK, these shoppers combine more spending power than younger buyers with an eye for trends, and on a social commerce platform, trends turn into purchases.

The gap of eleven percentage points between 40+ users runs against the platform's image. TikTok is widely seen as an app for younger users. In Germany, almost half of the people who buy through its shop belong to the older age groups.
Middle-income shoppers form the core of TikTok Shop in both markets. They make up 62% of buyers in the UK and 56% in Germany.
Germany's remaining buyers spread further toward the edges. 28% of German TikTok Shop buyers belong to the low-income group, and 16% to the high-income group. In the UK, these shares are 24% and 14%.

The UK audience is more concentrated in the middle, while Germany's covers a wider range. A concentrated middle points to a platform that has reached the mainstream. Four years after launch, TikTok Shop in the UK draws most of its buyers from the broad center of the market.
Timing explains why German TikTok shoppers tend to skew towards the extremes. TikTok Shop launched in Germany in March 2025, four years after the UK. The platform is still building its German audience.
At launch, TikTok Shop leaned heavily on discounted products in Germany. Low prices draw deal seekers first. The income data reflects that: at 28%, Germany's low-income share sits above the UK's 24%.
How the German audience develops from here is still open. Younger, trend-driven shoppers may follow the deal seekers who arrived first. That would pull the profile closer to the UK's.
The older, value-oriented buyer could also become the lasting face of TikTok Shop in Germany. The 2026 data will show which way it goes.
